Hello to My Treasured Acme Friends and Family,
It has been 30 years since Scott Malandrone introduced my loudspeaker designs to the world with his rave review of my Low B-2 and Low B-4 models in Bass Player Magazine. That event changed my life. In all seriousness, it was comparable in significance to having a child.
I was 41 at the time. I’m 71 now.
The experience and the business have been wonderful. The love and loyalty I’ve received from customers around the world have been a continuing source of joy. The freedom and flexibility the business provided also allowed me to raise my disabled son and give him and his development the attention they needed. He is now 32 and doing well.
However, I have reached the point where I need to pass the business on to someone else, if I can, so production can continue. Amazingly, the speakers have remained essentially unchanged throughout the years and are still in demand, despite having done little or no advertising for more than 15 years.
The business remains viable, but it is time for someone else to carry it forward. It is no longer fun for me, and I don’t need the money. I would like to spend more time writing about the physics of loudspeakers, an area where I believe I still have something meaningful to contribute.
My Low B-1 1×10 model has also received attention from the audiophile community, and I have been asked to offer it in fine hardwoods for home use. I don’t yet know whether that will happen.
Effective June 16, 2026, Acme Sound has suspended production. Once the few remaining cabinets have been sold, I will not have any more available unless the business is successfully transferred to a new owner.
I owe my loyal customers the excellent service Acme is known for, and that support will remain available for as long as I am able to provide it, which I hope will be for quite a while. If I find someone to take over the business, a strong commitment to customer service will be a prerequisite. You should not have to worry about losing that.
I hope to find someone who is willing to learn how to build these speakers properly, which may not be as easy as it sounds. If you are interested, or know someone who might be, please contact me.
I know many loudspeaker enthusiasts dream of turning their passion into a profession. This could be an opportunity for the right person to make that leap. My terms will be reasonable. I expect to make my remaining parts inventory available at or near cost in exchange for an ongoing commission on units sold. I am also willing to consider other serious proposals.
The Acme story is not over, and my contact information will remain the same. Please feel free to stay in touch.
I love you all. Thank you for everything.
Sincerely,
Andy Lewis
